Frequently Asked Questions About Counseling Services

How do I know which counselor is best for me?

Finding the right counselor is important. Please read over each therapist’s information page. If you are still unsure, please contact one of us and we will be happy to help match you select the right counselor for you.

How often do I go to counseling?

During your first or second session, the therapist will discuss a treatment plan with you tailored to meet your goals. We do not believe in a cookie cutter approach, but will make a recommendation on the frequency of counseling sessions based upon your specific situation and goals.

Can I just schedule on-line?

There is a link on Mrs. Gardner and Mrs. Cramer’s pages to register and schedule on line. Mrs. Utter prefers to have you contact her to schedule. Regardless, once you make that initial contact, a therapist will contact you to confirm your appointment and answer any questions.

How do I know what type of counseling I need?

There are several national and/or international organizations that promote best practice therapies for specific issues. Our therapists will listen to your goals during the first sessions, and will make recommendation(s) of the type of counseling during the treatment planning. Our therapists collaborate with our clients, meaning that our clients are part of the treatment planning process.

Please arrive 15 minutes early your first session. There will be a clipboard of paperwork with your first name on it if you have not already registered as a new client on-line. You may wish to bring a history of your concern, a history of treatment, and a list of your medications. Please bring a photo id and your method of payment. You are welcome to download the attached forms and bring the completed forms to your first appointment.

We are honored that you have chosen to allow us to serve you, and look forward to meeting you.

Do you handle Court Related Cases?

We are not taking court-related cases due to the time-consuming nature of court-related cases.

Shouldn’t I use insurance for counseling?

Cost is a factor in any major purchase. Most of us pay significantly for our medical insurance benefits. Therefore, often we assume that we should pick a counselor from a provider list or call the insurance company. It is in your best interest to be an informed consumer, and consider the pros and cons of using insurance for counseling. Please refer to the financial tab for more information.
